Motivation in the Cold?

cold

Do you lose your motivation to exercise when the short, cold days come along? Here's a few ideas to keep you going:

  • Splurge on new gear! Treat yourself to new exercise clothes. You need layers of breathable attire. Don't forget to protect your ears and hands.

  • Change your exercise time! If at all possible, exercise during the day when it is light. Our bodies naturally want to shut down when it's dark. Exercising in the evening may be more difficult in winter than it is during the summer.

  • Try something new! Sticking to one or two types of exercise can get monotonous. Try different equipment at the gym. Sign up for a class you might not normally take. Changing your exercise with the seasons will help keep you motivated.

  • Exercise with a friend. Don't face the tough times alone. Get an exercise partner to help motivate each other.

  • Enjoy winter! Once you get yourself outdoors, winter can seem magical. Hear the snow crunching under your feet. Feel the wind blowing in your face. And, enjoy the warm shower when you are finished!
