Tips to a Safe and Successful Physical Activity Program

Whether your goal is to control your weight or just to feel healthier, becoming physically active is a step in the right direction. Take advantage of the health benefits that regular exercise can offer and make physical activity a part of your lifestyle. But do it safely.

This Month's Health Tip:

    Wear your seat belt.

Statistics show that seat belts add to longevity and help alleviate potential injuries in car crashes:

    • In a crash, safety belts keep people in their seats, avoiding more serious injury or even death.
    • Air bags, combined with safety belts, offer maximum protection. Air bags protect you only in head-on crashes.
    • In vehicles with a passenger-side air bag, put your baby in the back seat. An air bag could injure a rear-facing infant in the front seat.
    • Pregnant women should always wear safety belts, being sure to position the lap belt low across the hips.

June's Calendar

June is also:

    National Aphasia Awareness Month

    Men's Health Week: June 10-16

    • Men's Health Information - Experts say the risk for many diseases can be reduced with a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise, not smoking and a low-fat diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Men also should talk with their doctors to set up a schedule of preventive screening exams that can help detect diseases at their earliest, most treatable stages.
